Places that take bursaries
About NSFAS accreditation
For NSFAS to pay for your room, the place has to be accredited. WhoseInn does not accredit places: a landlord here says whether they take rent paid by a bursary, and a person checks every place and its owner before it goes up. That is a check, not an inspection, and not accreditation.
The accredited lists are kept by the institutions and by NSFAS. UFS publishes its list of accredited off-campus addresses; CUT's housing office keeps its list of accredited privately owned accommodation. Check a place against your institution's list, and with NSFAS, before you sign.
How it works
- Pick a place. See its rooms, the rent for each, the deposit and how far it is from campus.
- Ask on WhatsApp. One tap opens WhoseInn on WhatsApp with the place already chosen.
- Meet the landlord. Book a viewing, see the room, and only then agree terms.
Questions
Are the places checked?
Every place is checked by a person before it goes up, and the landlord shows proof that they own it or may let it. It is a check, not an inspection, so see the room before you pay anything.
How do I ask about a room?
Tap "Ask on WhatsApp" on the place. Your message goes to WhoseInn, which puts you in touch with the landlord. You verify your ID once before messaging a landlord, and so has every landlord here.
Does NSFAS pay for accommodation?
NSFAS includes an accommodation allowance for students it funds, paid for accommodation that is accredited. How much, and which places count, depend on NSFAS's rules for the year and on where you study, so check with NSFAS and your institution's housing office. WhoseInn does not accredit places.
Do places take bursaries?
Each landlord says whether a place takes cash, bursaries or both, and a room can differ from the rest of the house; rooms for one or the other are marked. On WhatsApp you say once how your rent is paid, and you are shown the rooms you can pay for.
